[What is Sanba Stone?] This is a blue-green crystalline schist that is mined around Fujioka City, Gunma Prefecture. Some stones have beautiful white stripes and are used as garden stones. There are several theories about the origin of the name, including one that it comes from three rocks in the nearby Sanba River, and another that it is named after the river itself. Its appeal lies in the deep flavor that develops with age.
